Stephen Hawking just gave humanity a due date for finding another planet. It’s 1000 years.

If humanity survives the rise of artificial intelligence, the ravages of climate change and the threat of nuclear terrorism in the next century, it doesn’t mean we’re home free, according to Stephen Hawking.

The renowned theoretical physicist has gone as far as providing humanity with a deadline for finding another planet to colonize: We have 1,000 years.

The Washington Post, published on November 17, 2016.

Stephen Hawking, the name that requires no introduction, has given a gentle warning to the whole race of humanity that we probably have only 1000 more years left on earth, and setting up new colonies on some other planets in the Solar System is the only thing that could save the race. Hawking’s estimation did not even consider the devastating global climatic challenges and nuclear capabilities of ready to war nations. He believes that we soon are going to encounter our enemies, whom we’re not even close to knowing how to deal with.

Hawking has been calling for the ban on development of autonomous machines for the last one year and he joined many other experts and scientists who believe that these autonomous machines are completely a threat to the human race, which runs war heads without any human intervention.

Hawking predicts that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would reach a level, where it programs, develops and controls itself with any human intervention, which would put the peace and freedom of the human race on earth in a doubtful situation. We, the humans, might be controlled by these machines, rather than controlling them.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) is as dangerous as it is helpful. The world, in the next 30 years, will see a rapid development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, where robots and automated machines will play a vital role in our normal lives. The AI penetrates into our basic needs, starting from medical treatments and going up to managing the nuclear warheads in defence war camps. There are many cognitive engines, whose analytical abilities have already shown unbelievable results in Medical Research. Once these cognitive engines enter into support military systems, and once they overtake human interventions to result into an automated defence military mechanism, they might erase the line of peace between many nations. The day is not very far, when all this will happen, without any human intervention. This really puts the existence of the human race in a doubtful situation, keeping the theory of ‘survival of the fittest’ in view.

The renowned physicist also firmly believes that we are not alone in the universe and, for sure, there are Aliens. The day we encounter Aliens, it will be very late to realize that they are far more advanced and enormously more powerful than us and may not consider the human race to be as valuable as the micro-organisms are for us. We might get conquered and become slaves, unable to withstand their power and advancement.

Even if our planet and ourselves are very lucky to survive, the global climatic changes that are going to come in the next hundred years; the ever increasing sea levels, the ever decreasing ice in Antarctica, the disturbing conditions affecting world peace and world economics as well as the inclusion and development of more powerful nuclear weapons by many more countries, have the power to wipe us off this planet. And even if the human race survives all this for the next 100 years, we have a good sign of saturation and we should start our preparations to get ready to meet the aliens and set up colonies on the other plants.

It is clear and evident that we should have a backup plan, like setting up colonies on some other planets of the universe. We cannot stop the scientific advancement. Rather, we should expand in to new colonies on new planets and make ourselves ready so that we withstand and survive the changes and face the challenges, which inevitably are going to land in front of us in less than 1000 years from now.
